As part of the Smile Again concept, Dr. Giraldo offers the following services.  Hi-tech composites, veneers, Porcelain crowns and whitening techniques are the best options to a healthy smile.

Composite.

Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. They are sometimes referred to as composites or filled resins. . Less tooth structure is removed, and this may result in a smaller filling than that of an amalgam (silver filling). It is a very conservative and aesthetic way of restoring a tooth.

Veneers.

A veneer is a porcelain restoration (metal free) used to improve aesthetics of the smile. Very little tooth structure needs to be removed most of the times. The amount of tooth reduction depends on position of the tooth, type of veneer and method used by the dentist.

The use of a night guard, or splint while sleeping might be recommended. This will protect your lower teeth from the effects of the porcelain grinding on the enamel. Even if you do not knowingly grind your teeth, porcelain is damaging to enamel during even slight grinding of the teeth.. Regular cleanings from your dental hygienist are still recommended, along with regular dental checkups.

Full porcelain crowns.

These types of crowns are mostly recommended for esthetics areas like anterior teeth.  More tooth structure is removed when a porcelain crown is done as opposed to a veneer, since there will be a complete coverage of the tooth. Dental crowns are a good choice in those situations where the tooth is subject to significant chewing and biting forces.  Crowns can be made with different materials depending on the situation and aesthetic demand.

Teeth whitening.

As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral composition of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous. Teeth can also become stained by bacterial pigments, foodstuffs and tobacco. Certain antibiotic medications (like tetracycline) can also lead to teeth stains or a reduction in the brilliance of the enamel.

Oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are used to lighten the shade of the tooth. The oxidizing agent penetrates the porosities in the rod-like crystal structure of enamel and oxidizes interprismatic stain deposits; over a period of time, the dentin layer, lying underneath the enamel, is also bleached. Laser bleaching uses light energy to accelerate the process of bleaching in a dental office. The effects of bleaching can last for several months, but may vary depending on the lifestyle of the patient. Factors which will decrease whitening include smoking and the ingestion of dark colored liquids like coffee, and red wine.

We offer two different ways of doing teeth whitening, depending on your convenience. Whitening can be either done at the dental office where you get immediate results, or at home, which will take around 5 days to get the desired results.
